Music Research      V.A.  : Rain Stranger/Babes (KO,1972,re.2005)**
airplay : Tr.1, 5 min, (Tr.3, 3 min) 9/12

Song pop interpreted into folk interpretations succeeds now and then to create sometimes beautiful, often it is slightly naive and mellow. With female and male singer. 1000 copies only. The first singer is Yoon Hyung-Ju.
Music Research     V.A. : OTO best 10 (KO,1979,re.2010)°°°

This seems to be a pop/rock compilation with different bands from the 70s. I recognise a comparable sound to Pearl Sisters (2), Oh Jung Sun with a great track (track 3, but there seems to be 3 tracks on it, so two are less essential), April & May (track 4 is best, and two more or less good tracks from which I thought were by similar dual harmony singers). Some of the listed songs are more mainstream, but there is use of fuzz guitar more often. The Oh Jung Sun track, track 3, I think is the most essential one. The compilation is good enough as an introduction to know what to expect from Korean pop/rock music but it is not really so special.

Music Research       V.A. : '84 (KO,1984,re.2009)-

This compilation, with nice front cover sleeve and art work, of course is already from a worse period for song music, songwriters, taste and production. There are attempts to show something similar to that period, elsewhere something more public teasing up tempo TV show arrangements are added of brass and flute and strings, the result of all the tracks, for foreign ears, like nearly all Korean 80s and 90s and more recent albums remain forgettable.

Music Research   Babodeuli Haengjin (='March of Fools') : Golden Best album (vol.1) (KO,1975,re.2005)*°°
= soundtrack by Song Chang Sik & Lee Jang Hee
airplayed : Tr.3, (title ??) 3 min

Most of the album is somewhat disappointing for me, for its easy mainstream use of rhythms and schlager-like pop songs, song festival-pop like at times with some kitschy approaches. The few fuzz guitar parts and organ can’t compensate enough, for collectors this 60s pop album is not rewarding enough. I chose only one song that stands out.

airplay : track 4,6,(9)

With a title like this you know what to expect. It means that there has been a big public involved with this project and whatever songs are submitted, they are arranged with a full orchestra, some brass and a rock band.

The first track (by Park, Kyeong-Hee) is a western cover with fitting ok brass & a popular rock band, a mainstream hit sung with exaggerating voice in the lead moments.
The second track (by Yun, Hang-Ki) is a sad song with smoky and extremely sad voice, for a moment singing just solo without accompaniment, before the band appears, which are piano, string orchestra, guitars and then also brass, and then also an electronic keyboard with the rock band, and some flute arrangement. This is entertainment music, but it has enough interesting elements to work well.
Also the next track (by  Park, Sang-Kyu) plays a bit with emotions from sad to up-tempo to pure entertainment. It is well arranged with strings and the popular rock band.
The next track really is worth singling out for a mention ! It is sung by a very special, a bit strange, unusual and gifted female voice, accompanied by strings and rock band and a more dominant strange Moog-like instrument, mixed with brass, which is a bit contradictory to the progressive sound being started. This artist seems to be Jeong Eun Sook, with a worthy song to check out and a fine performance.
Also the next, slightly smoked, lower voice is good at first, then the singer starts to emphasise more on louder entertainment. The arrangements are with guitar and string orchestra, and on the louder moments with brass.
Another better song is the next one, which I remember from another album, sung by male voice, which is Song Chang-Sik, with orchestra and Moog sounds.
The next track (by Kang, Tae-Woong) is fine enough too, with a good voice, a rather dance rhythm, with a rock band, strings and brass. This seems to be a cover (Julia?).
The next track is by Moon, Jo, is a more or less ok, emotional entertainment with strings, piano and drums. Apparently she never recorded anything else.
The next track by Kim, In-Soon is recorded with strings, trumpet and a special keyboard for a small melodic contribution. It is an enjoyable enough melody/song, still with some mainstream entertainment factor.
The last song by Kim, Myeong-Hee is acoustic guitar led, with additional string orchestra and drums, a good (and rather, even though tempered, rock orientated) song with slightly strange low voice and song melody variations.

An album still worth checking out for completists. For people whole like good songs with well arranged contrasting orchestrations this album also is worth tracing.
