CD (2005), CD (2009)

Yuval Ron Music   The Yuval Ron Ensemble : Tree Of Life (US,2005)***

The album intertwines music from Morocco, Turkey, Iraq, Israel, Armenia, Andalusia, and Bukhara (Uzbekistan), sung in Hebrew, Arabic, Ladino (a Spanish-Jewish language) and Turkish. This includes the moody melancholy of Armenian music, the devotional concentration of Sufi music, the devoted melancholy of Hebrew music, the heart melancholy from Arab music, with Middle Eastern oud and percussion.  One influence to make this Middle Eastern crossover pole, besides various other Hebrew (Jewish- Moroccan traditionals mostly) and Arabic sources (Iraq,..), is the influence of the Golden Age of Spain, especially with the track “Andalusian”.

Yuval Ron Music   The Yuval Ron Ensemble : Seeker Of Truth (US,2009)***°

This album focuses on several Sufi related music traditions from Moorish over Turkish up to Hindu-Pakistani traditions. Invited are two singers from a different style tradition, Najwa Gibran (female Arab singer) and Sukhawat Ali Khan (male Pakistani sufi singer). The effect of all traditions sounds, from a Western point of view, often like a trance-moody improvisation. Being meditative at some point, the Hindu-Pakistani tradition is able to sound most celebrative to sing-and clap along. It is beautiful to hear the different approaches mingle into one another like breezes with slightly changing colours, and mood, and to hear the variations of the different singing styles. The strongest album from the band I heard so far.
