V.A. : Eastern Standard Time (PK,IND,JAP,LEB,US,TÜ,EG,comp.2009)****
Eastern Standard time is a well mixed compilation by DJ ‘Alien Disko’, on an obscure German or Austrian label. The focus is mainly on oriental belly-dance-alike crossovers, like a sort of symbolic ‘sound’ of the orient which is adapted as an oriental fantasy in many countries. Elements which return are belly dance hand bells and rhythms, surf guitars, Arab orchestras (on the Middle Eastern groups mostly), oriental use of organ (sometimes moog) and occasional and attractive mixes with other rhythms (samba on track 4, rumba on track 5, eastern flavours on the Japanese track 7, Greek elements on the Indian track 15, flamenco on the other Indian or Pakistani track 16 ; track 10 sounds like being Northern African). No matter where the tracks come from these elements are felt similarly which makes the compilation still luckily varied enough to keep your attention with the smoothly evolving changes. . The artists are not always the most interesting ones around, but the result of the compilation makes most of them sound just fine.
